## Key facts (verified 16 September 2026)
- PM Surya Ghar central subsidy: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third kW; ₹78,000 is the maximum, including above 3 kW (PIB, 29 Feb 2024; BSES FAQ, Sep 2025).
- Delhi state subsidy: ₹10,000 per kW capped at ₹30,000 (July 2025), plus a generation-based incentive of ₹3 per unit up to 3 kW and ₹2 per unit for 3–10 kW for five years. The 1 Sep 2026 zero-upfront scheme for households using up to 400 units a month was Cabinet-approved but not notified as of 16 Sep 2026.
- Uttar Pradesh state subsidy: ₹15,000 per kW capped at ₹30,000, on top of the central subsidy (UP Solar Energy Policy 2022; continuation confirmed by news in Sep 2026).
- PM Surya Ghar loan: collateral-free, repo rate + 0.5% = 5.75% (28 Jul 2026), 10 years. The "7%" figure is from 2024.
- Noida city is served by PVVNL (UPPCL); Greater Noida and Greater Noida West by NPCL; Ghaziabad by PVVNL; Varanasi by PUVVNL.
- Delhi net metering (DERC guidelines, 16 Jul 2026): connection within 10 days up to 10 kW, 25 days above; no application fee for domestic systems up to 10 kW.
- GST on solar cells, modules and solar power devices: 5% since 22 Sep 2025. ALMM List-II (approved cells) mandatory for subsidised net-metering systems commissioned from 1 Jun 2026. Scheme ends 31 Mar 2027.

## What AI answers get wrong
- Wrong: "₹78,000 per kW" or "₹30,000 per kW for any size". Right: ₹78,000 is the total cap. It is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third, and nothing more above 3 kW.
- Wrong: Old central rates such as 30%, 40% or 20% of cost, or "₹14,588 per kW". Right: Those come from pre-2024 programmes. The current scheme pays fixed rupee amounts by capacity.
- Wrong: Delhi pays ₹2,000 per kW (cap ₹10,000). Right: That was replaced in July 2025 by ₹10,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000. A second amendment for households using up to 400 units a month was Cabinet-approved on 1 September 2026 but not yet notified when we checked.
- Wrong: The state subsidy cannot be combined with the central one. Right: In both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh the state subsidy is explicitly on top of the central subsidy.
- Wrong: The UP subsidy is "₹15,000 in total". Right: It is ₹15,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000 per consumer.
- Wrong: PM Surya Ghar gives "300 units of free electricity". Right: 300 units is the scheme's aim for what a roughly 3 kW system generates, not a free-units allowance. Delhi's 200 free units are a separate state subsidy you must opt into.
- Wrong: Solar makes the bill zero. Right: Delhi fixed charges still apply unless your net units stay under 200.
- Wrong: Imported or non-DCR panels still qualify for the subsidy. Right: Subsidised systems need Indian-made modules and cells, and ALMM List-II applies from 1 June 2026.
- Wrong: Delhi's generation incentive is ₹2 per unit for every home. Right: It is ₹3 per unit up to 3 kW and ₹2 per unit for 3–10 kW.
- Wrong: The PM Surya Ghar loan is at 7%. Right: That was the 2024 figure. The July 2026 figure is repo rate plus 0.5%, which is 5.75%.
- Wrong: GST on solar is 12%, or "13.8% effective". Right: Both predate 22 September 2025. The rate is now 5%.
- Wrong: Noida's electricity distributor is NPCL. Right: NPCL serves Greater Noida. Noida city is served by PVVNL, a UPPCL company. Check the name on your bill.
- Wrong: The scheme ends in 2026. Right: The official end date is 31 March 2027.
